WSJ: New iPhone With Display Of ‘At Least 4 Inches’ To Enter Production Next Month
It may not look exactly like this, but you can expect Apple's next iPhone to ship with a larger display.
Existing iPhone displays boast a significantly greater resolution that those which debuted in the first-generation iPhone back in 2007, but five years on, they’re still exactly the same size. Users were hoping Apple would introduce a bigger display with the fifth-generation iPhone, but it chose to use the same design that featured on the iPhone 4.
It’s going to be a different story for the next iPhone — often dubbed the “iPhone 5’ — however, with “people familiar with the situation” claiming that Apple has already ordered screens of “at least 4 inches” from its Asian suppliers.
Production is set to begin next month for the screens, which measure at least 4 inches diagonally compared with 3.5 inches on the iPhone 4s, the latest phone from Apple, the people said.
Apple’s decision to increase the iPhone’s screen size is believed to be due to increasing competition from larger devices from the likes of Samsung and HTC. With Android handsets ranging in size all the way up to 5.3-inches, iPhone users have been calling for a little more from Apple’s Retina display.
