iPad controlled street lights to be installed in London

Westminster City Council has announced that it will soon be replacing old street lights with new smart street lighting that can be controlled with an iPad. Around 14,000 new iPad controlled street lights will be installed within the next four years as a part of a $5.2 million investment. These new smart street lights will replace the old central London street lights.

This new system will help Webminster City Council’s in reducing electricity bill by $1.6 million every 2 years. The streetlights are controlled with the help of an application that runs on iPad. Engineers will be able to takeout an iPad and control the streetlights, that is they can adjust the brightness and control the power supply of these street lights. This application can even help in finding out street lights that are not functioning properly. Operating and functioning of these smart street lights is much as the same way as the Hue consumer lighting system from Philips.
