asha 200 from nokia is a great phone.it looks good,feels solid and performs even better.what do you think its price is??the only thing it lacks is  a wifi support.costing only 4000 inr(80$) its sound system is very good  and effective ,as good as the music series,the messaging service is exellant.and during this recession time will this model outsell the smartphone(thats a too farfetched idea) and bring nokia to its former glory.....only time will tell!

Nokia's digital mapping arm Navteq has launched its indoor mapping service in India. Navteq's Destination Maps covers 150 malls across 17 cities in India. The new indoor mapping app allows users to access interior map attributes such as escalators and elevators along with detailed information about a place, making navigation easier in indoor spaces.

Nokia says its Destination Maps is designed to enhance the consumer shopping experience by enabling the creation of applications that facilitate “internal” direct routes to stores, ATM’s, exits etc, whilst providing detailed information about Points of Interest (POI) and improved search functionality.

A typical navigation solution guides users to an approximate location of a destination. In case of finding a shopping mall, a normal navigation device will guide users to to the most proximate location to a listed address on the road work. But in reality the desired destination may be a place inside a mall, says a shoe store. Nokia's Destination Maps addresses this need of “last meter guidance” by guiding the user all the way to the shoe store.

“The concept of indoor mapping is extremely relevant in India where the mall culture has gripped Indians of all ages. More importantly, NAVTEQ Destination Maps allow applications to easily and seamlessly extend navigation experience from the outside, all the way to the front door of a shop within a mall.” said Tarun Harnathka, Director of Map and Content, Indian Subcontinent, Nokia, Location & Commerce.

“Destination Maps is the newest addition to our pedestrian navigation portfolio. The combination of Destination Maps and other Location & Content products allows our customers to truly deliver integrated consumer experience from driving, commuting to indoor shopping,” he adds.

Launch of the Destination Maps app comes days after Nokia revealed NAVTEQ Map coverage had increased its India map by over 80 percent to more than 4,200 cities in two quarters. Nokia recently NAVTEQ Traffic Pro service that provides detailed information about traffic speeds on motorways, main and secondary roads to enable more accurate estimated arrival times. With the Destination Maps app, Nokia takes on Google's Google Maps that also has similar indoor mapping feature. Google Maps with indoor mapping is currently available only in the U.S. and Japan. In India, Nokia will be competing with navigation service providers such as TomTom and MapMyIndia.

Nokia has announced it will begin rolling out the Nokia 808 PureView cameraphone in select markets in May. The Finnish mobile giant also announced that India, and Russia, will be the first two markets to get the PureView on retail shelves.

The Symbian Belle-based Nokia 808 PureView, orPureView 808 as it was first known, literally stole the show when it was unveiled at MWC 2012, receiving the Best Mobile Device award at the prestigious event.

In the meanwhile, the Nokia 808 PureView has also won the award for Best Imaging Innovation for 2012 from the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA). Jo Harlow, Head of Smart Devices at Nokia, spoke about the importance of the device in the entire smartphone industry, saying:

“PureView has completely raised the bar on imaging performance for the whole smartphone industry - and Nokia is not stopping here. We’re going to carry on developing PureView for our future smartphones in ways that will again revolutionize the imaging experience.”

The Nokia 808 PureView features an extra-large 41MP sensor, along with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology. Offering a maximum image resolution of 38MP, the Nokia 808 PureView’s camera sensor condenses 7 adjacent pixels into one, downsizing it to an extra-sharp and light-sensitive 5MP or 8MP image. Max image quality at 4:3 aspect is 38 MP, while at 16:9 aspect is 34 MP.

The Nokia 808 PureView’s also features a built-in Xenon flash, alongside a LED light for video. It can handle 1080p HD video recording at 30 fps, with stereo sound, and 4x zoom. Nokia has also included the Nokia Rich Recording feature, which enables audio recording at CD-like levels of quality, previously only possible with external microphones. It also comes with Dolby Headphone technology, transforming stereo content into a personal surround sound experience over any headphones and Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel surround sound playback.

While all this makes the Nokia 808 PureView the greatest cameraphone to date, Nokia has decided not to put too much juice into the rest of the phone’s specifications – it features a relatively low-resolution 640x360 pixel Gorilla Glass AMOLED display, albeit with a 16:9 display.

Other specifications include a single-core 1.3GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 16GB built-in storage, USB-on-the-Go, Bluetooth 3.0, HSDPA 14.4Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps, Wi-Fi N with DLNA, GPS and A-GPS, stereo FM radio, and even NFC.

An early poll of analysts suggest that Samsung has finally overtaken Nokia in global mobile phone sales (smartphone and feature phones) in Q1 2012, after a 14-year reign at the top by the Finnish mobile giant, since 1998 when it overtook Motorola.

Samsung is thought to have sold between 88 to 92 million cell phones in Q1 2012, with Nokia officially selling 83 million. In the last quarter (Q4 2011), when Apple retook the smartphone crown, Nokia had remained on top of the overall global mobile phone sales graph – with 23.4 percent market share. Samsung was second, with 19 percent share, and Apple, surprisingly, without any feature phones on offer, was third, with ZTE and LG following.

Official quarterly results from Samsung and other manufacturers are still due, and we’ll have to wait till then for confirmation of market positions. The sudden drop in Nokia’s share is expected to have occurred in February and March, with an early January poll of analysts predicting the Finnish giant will retain overall dominance.

In Q1 2012, Nokia is thought to have sold only 12 million smartphones, and 71 million feature phones – a ratio that shows just how badly Nokia is losing out in the global smartphone segment, with companies like Apple shipping nearly three times as many iPhones in the last quarter of 2011.

Nokia’s recently been facing some tough times in the PR sphere, acknowledging software errors in both its flagship Nokia Windows Phones – the Lumia 900 and Lumia 800, shortly after their launches. In the former case, the company even offered $100 rebates to all customers, effectively making the Lumia 900 free.

Reports of another Nokia Asha phone are triggered by a leaked user manual, which suggests the Asha 306 comes with GSM connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm headset jack, a camera of unknown resolution on the back, Micro USB, and hot-swappable MicroSD card slot supporting cards up to 32GB. According to Unwiredview.com, the Nokia Asha 306 will be launched in the first week of July. The site suggests Nokia may announce the Asha 306 at its forthcoming Nokia Connections annual event.Nokia is reportedly prepping another Asha phone, Asha 306, which will have smartphone-like features such as full-touchscreen, pinch to zoom, and a pull down notification bar at the top. According to reports, Nokia is also working on an upgraded operating system called Meltemi, combo of Symbian and Meego OS. It's notable that Nokia's Asha-series phones run on Series 40 platform.

Nokia's Asha series of low-cost phones are aimed at the developing markets such as India. The company has so far come up with Asha 303, Asha 300, Asha 200, Asha 202, and Asha 203 in the market. However, none of the Asha devices are full touch. All of the Asha phones come with physical keypads, while the Asha 303 has touch plus Qwerty input.
