How to reset Windows 7 user account password without the need of knowing the old password

In order to reset the password you will need to get access to any other user accounts in that PC and that user account must have administrative privileges too. I mainly use this method to play prank on my friends,ie when they logged on to their user account and are away I would play this trick on thier user account. This method also worked on Windows XP & Vista for me.

In this method we will using Command Prompt( I will call it as 'cmd' later in this post) in windows 7 to reset user account password.

First of all go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control Settings

A new box will open up showing notification options and pull down the little lever like switch to never notify and press OK. After pressing ok an administrator notification box will open up. Press OK.

Now press Windows(a key on your keyboard with Windows logo on it) + R on your keyboard or simply go to Start type Run in the search bar of the start button and you will find Run and click on it . A small box will open up named Run. In the text column type in cmd and press ok or hit enter on your keyboard.

Now a black box will open up and it's known as Command Prompt or cmd. You can find cmd also in  Start > All Programs >Accessories > Command Prompt.

In cmd type in net user and hit enter. List of all users will be shown after pressing enter. Now find the name of the user you want to reset the password. In my case I want to reset the password of the user named 'akku'.

Now type in net user username * ( Relplace username with the name of the user you want to reset, In my case username will be replaced with akku.)

Now it will ask you to type in a password 2 times, type the password you want and if don't want any password and want to remove the password just hit enter without typing in anything.

And voila, now the password will be reseted.
